Establishing your target audience with list building

Have you ever been frustrated by your efforts to generate leads for your publishing project? Although many marketing gurus are great at teaching all the steps for putting together online products, finding the right market and even building the business correctly, most people still have trouble building profitable e-mail lists. You need to master list building for optimal exposure.

There are a number of ways to begin to immediately profit from a small list of qualified leads. Most marketers, who get into affiliate sales or even create their own products, don’t get the opportunity to live comfortably off their online business. Their lists aren’t big enough to support their lifestyle.

One major problem with creating a highly qualified list for marketing purposes is figuring out what constitutes a qualified list. A lot of marketers look at their collection of e-mail addresses and considerate that a list. Your e-mail lists are as important as your social networks. Social networks are communities that have specific associations and similarities. Your friends, family, acquaintances and people you’ve never met who have a common link populate them.

I use article marketing to generate my targeted lists. That’s because I can speak with authority on a number of key subjects and promote my articles to specific audiences who can benefit from them. Those who find value in the information will be happy to get more of the same by clicking on the link to my websites.

You will draw a lot more readers by finding the keywords that they use when searching for solutions. You will get their attention by addressing the problems often associated with your target market. Take the time to lay out your information so that it is clear, concise and interesting to your audience.

Let them know that you have more to offer once they commit to logging onto your website. That should be the primary purpose for your articles. Their job is to impress the reader on your ability to solve their problem… if they would only click your link.

You can use social marketing in combination article marketing to speed up your list building dramatically. Be sure to invite all your Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn friends to read your articles. Submit the summary and a link upon publication to each one of your social networks. You can even make a quick video summary to post on your video blogs.

Be sure to ask your followers to “re-Tweat” your message on Twitter in order to get viral coverage. Grace your summaries with a call to action and a clear link for your readers. Don’t forget to reach out to your existing e-mail lists when you post a new article. You’ll want them to read it but even more importantly pass the link on to their friends and associates. Building a steady growing list of prospects requires diligence and patience.

You’ll want to be able to determine your break-even point for email list building. If it takes 100 clicks on an e-mail message to make one sale, you’ll need to factor that into the equation when determining how many subscribers you will need to make a living. For example, if you have 1000 people on your list, the average open rate for your e-mails may be 20%, so 200 people will read your e-mail.

The next step of course is to get them to click the links in your e-mail, which will take them to the sales presentation. You will need to track clicks from your e-mails to your sales page. This number is important because you will want to know how many clicks it will take to make a final sale.

In the end, simply having a large list is not enough. You must be able to develop a relationship with your e-mail lists to make list building worthwhile. Establishing your target audience, knowing their favorite keywords and addressing their problems will go a long way to building a huge list of targeted leads.
